Is the rabbit food that good and does anyone know what else they can feed them for variety?
Hello everyone,
Is my rabbit food good enough for 2 dwarf rabbits?
Twice a day they receive half a bucket of grass, clover, dandelion, and various leaves (beech, hornbeam, hazelnut, mirabelle, lilac, maple, and cherry). Then two handfuls of carrot tops, half a ciccore, some iceberg lettuce, some cauliflower, a little Chinese cabbage, and two handfuls of celery tops. This is their main food.
As additional food, there is about 1/5 of the apple, 1/3 carrot, 1/3 parsnip and rose petals.
Is that too little/too much?
Lilly is 5 years old and a colored dwarf (very small for her breed) and weighs 1kg.
Leo is a 1 1/2 year old dwarf rabbit and weighs about 1.6 – 1.8 kg.
(He is a pinto, a mix of German lop and Minilop dwarf lop, but tends more towards dwarf lop.)
Do you have any ideas how I can make the food more varied?
PS: Everything is organic π
Thanks in advance for your answers. Regards: LillyLeoNinchen
The diet sounds good in itself. I would still advise you not to define you, but to vary. With us, a balanced, varied diet is also important to stay healthy.
Look here: https://www.kaninchenwiese.de/ernaehrung/Basis/sekundaere- Pflanzenstoffe/ Of the secondary plant substances should always be well present.
You can also collect more vieeel when feeding the meadow. Be quiet to gather more than just the usual rabbit food. Here is a list of meadow herbs that are edible: https://www.kaninchenwiese.de/ernaehrung/futterlisten/wildkraeuterliste/
I think it’s good that you’re wearing bitter salads. These are very good for rabbits. You could offer more.
I wouldn’t feed apple and pastinake every day because of the yeast. Together with the carrots, everything is very sugary.
I do not think there is too much to feed rabbits. Rabbits should finally have 24/7 access to fresh food. Whether you feed too little you realize that your rabbits have nothing left of the old food at the next feeding.
If I understand your text correctly, do you feed twice a day? You can give rations if the portions are big enough! I prefer to feed several times a day, because there is no danger that the fresh food will be blurred.
Thank you for your answer! I forgot to mention that I am still hanging lion’s tooth, eissalat, chicoree and ackerwind on a string in the cradle with birch clips.
Hello ππ½
You can also try food games with them.
I would add the diet by cabbage. Remember to feed him slowly. With vegetables you have the right amount (not too much) but I would change more.
Otherwise it sounds good.
Dear Greetings I hope I could help you
Thank you for your answer! I’ve already introduced the feed line. Then I’ll get another food tree. Thank you.
lion’s tooth and carrot’s wort should not be so common as parsley, as it contains a lot of calcium and can quickly lead to blisters and blisters in rabbits.
High-quality hay also require rabbit π round-the-clock.
Thank you for your answer! I’ll do that! They already have hay. They also have hay as soil cover in the 3rd. I also have 5 hay pads in my stable. Thank you, was very helpful!
That sounds very good. My still love sweet potatoes and red beds, maybe you want to change something in vegetables, fennel is also eaten as well as basil and sage. Maybe Rabbiteies.de will help you if you don’t know the site yet.
are your rabbits inside or outside? If they live in the outer mountains, they will be very pleased with seeds in the autumn, otherwise it is necessary to take care of overweight. Especially these shepherds (for birds) love them and pumpkin seeds.
Do the two have access to hay?
Attention to sweet potatoes and red beds. They’re strong dickmakers. Potatoes usually do not belong to the menu.
But when my nils are allowed to go out all year round and have plenty of space, they have never given up. In addition, of course, this does not exist daily but only occasionally as a change π
Normal potatoes should of course not be fed.
Thank you for your helpful answer! They have access to hay 24 hours a day. The 3.Etwage is covered with hay, in tubes and hay pads is also offered hay, as well as in the toilets (pots 3x) seeds they have not yet received. I can give it today 2-3 sunflower seeds. Fenchel mourn my about 2x a week. Red beds don’t know them yet. I have to try, thank you!
In the case of seeds it is only really necessary to take care if the rabbits are not kept outside. My get a mix always from autumn to spring and in summer at most times millet bars to climb, but also very rare.
Red beet can discolor the urine and the babe, so do not frighten
But mine are kept outside. And have enough space.
Exterior height 25m2
stable 8m2
Game area 4m2
Meadow freewheel 3m2
So 3 sunflower seeds per animal and week, does that fit?
That sounds great.
I never counted or weighed the seeds. π
