Is studying renewable energy useful?

Hello everyone,

Does it make sense to study "Renewable Energy," and do you think there are enough job opportunities there? I'm not sure if my current degree program is really as sought after on the job market as it's always claimed to be. And one more question: Since I'm considering emigrating to Switzerland after graduation, are there enough jobs in my field there?

If anyone is familiar with the current job situation in the area or perhaps works there themselves, I would be happy to hear from them.

I don't know anything about the job opportunities in CH in this area, but:

I once heard from insiders why and how at a university (was so in this case) such courses with renewable energy were introduced: The university was not allowed to study for decades as eg electrical engineering, because there were too many FHs that offered it. So at some point, an electrical engineering study program with the help of the topic of renewable energies etc. has been bent so that you could somehow get through with the ministry.

In general, I do not like courses where you need to know exactly what you want right at the beginning. At my time it was possible to decide during the course of the study for various directions without the need for a change of study and the related anger with the Bafög.

You often only know during your studies which areas of study are fun. Is, however, various formally independent. Courses that differ essentially from one lecture per semester…

So my advice is more than your question:

  • Fachhochschul-Studium (in particular, the most have deleted the "special" from the name, but are not universities) is more practical and you also have good job opportunities with the Bachelor, unlike the university.
  • to keep an eye out for courses where you are still relatively flexible in the course of your studies, what you do in the main course of your studies.
  • in part, there are renewable energies as an elective field. Or you're doing a practical semester (to FH's duty) or Internship in the direction if you find something.

The study makes sense. If you are looking for courses or professions in a few years, this course of study was always there.

The Swiss attach great importance to traditional training (I know some and have already received some private lessons). In addition, the Swiss are very old-fashioned. In most houses or shops there is not even air conditioning.

So study is top only you should choose another country.
