Is it worth buying a used bike for under 100 euros on sites like eBay classifieds, Shpock, etc.?

Or do such cheap prices often refer to bikes that have hidden defects or are stolen, etc.?

Bicycles are not really more expensive from production… except it's made of carbon or something… then people – when there was no car – drove almost only bicycle. And over 100€ bikes nobody can afford if you have 3 or 4 children.

Most of it is marketing… production is cheap.

Yes, there you have to look for… what you find on the internet right now is the advertising by the larger companies that naturally impose bicycles for a lot of money.

I would also look for Ebay… or ebay classifieds – not on the first page but a few more.

As with all the other things you can buy: It has its reason how the price comes. And if someone offers you something cheaper than other sellers, it will also have its reason. Nobody has anything to give away!

You have to look at what this is. No one forces you to buy the cat in the bag, but you can look at the bike and go to the search for defects. And if you have a bad feeling, you just let it stand.

Yes and no. You can't say that in general. You can pick up Muttis or Vatis treasures, which once cost 2500-3000 DM 25 years ago and has taken a total distance of 15 km behind in the meantime, which is certainly tending to be a bargain, but you get as good a number of parts that are simply scrap or have a typical construction market quality, you have hardly tasted more than the 100 €.

You should probably know a bit or at least not take so much money in your hand to not be too disappointed in the case of doubt.
And you should try to find out what the selected bike actually brings in value and has actually recosted. In general, it can be said that the most common sellers on eBay, eBay classifieds and comparable have a much too high idea of the residual value of their sold treasures – not only related to bicycles. If people want to buy something, then it can always be worth at most 20 € if the same is sold by them, but must be at least 200 € in it…

Edit: what I could put to you personally would be looking for bicycles that come from gambling. Most manufacturers do not waste the last scrap, the bicycles have been lost somewhere where no one was needed, it has been landed randomly in the household and correspondingly little or no use. At the same time, the parts are often offered with a low estimate, because it is “only an advertising medium” and possibly even currently stands out. I can tell you by myself that there were two or three series from Ritter Sport – one of them I also had, that was very neat and durable, but last but not a high-end device. I also mean dark to remember that some Sinalci wheels are on the market. I found these wheels on offer at a very good value for money. There are, of course, individual outliers who want to offer such a bicycle as a collector's item for a completely overcrowded course, but that seems to be the exception.

I would use the local special offer markets / Bicycle Flea Markets for bicycle purchase. The police also go through and check the offers.

My family makes a lot about ebay classifieds as we have a collection of vintage bicycles. Defects do not exist as often or we fix it ourselves. We always do complete maintenance and sometimes restoration. There's never been one.

Basically, classifieds are worth as real treasure trove

Depends on your requirements.

In principle, you always get what you pay for.
