Is it harmful if Tupperware containers change color?

Every time I put dishes in the dishwasher that previously had tomato sauce or something with a lot of turmeric in it (e.g. curry), my mother complains loudly that I should wash them by hand because otherwise MY Tupperware containers and bowls will get discolored.

There aren't any major residues stuck to the plates that could clog the dishwasher; she's only concerned about the discoloration.

However, I only use plastic kitchen utensils and containers, which I paid for with my own money. Not to mention, I haven't noticed a single color deviation so far.

If in the future I have someone in the house who puts their own dishes in the same dishwasher as me, then I will of course take that into account, but I don't care what happens to my stuff.

Is this harmful in any way (especially since plastic is obviously not that great anyway) or does my mother just need a reason to complain?

You can try one thing – I don’t have one at the moment:

Try rubbing the stained areas with a Zewa which is well soaked with edible oil (raps, sunflower or so). The color of carrots is pretty good away from plastic – perhaps also your problems from Tupper.

PS: please info if you like it.

No, that’s not harmful. It doesn’t look nice. Some people weighted that higher than others, especially since Tupperware is not cheap (or better said was, are broke as far as I know).
