Not more.
GMX has its servers in Germany, is more accessible to data protection authorities, is in doubt more likely to comply with the GDPR. In addition, it does not allow a company to control its entire digital life.
If you have an ad blocker or access your emails via a client (which I would recommend), you won’t get anything from advertising.

Ultimately, there are companies behind both services that earn money with your data or control over your digital life. Better are email services that finance themselves through a small user contribution, such as Posteo or Mailbox.org.

Both providers offer a high level of data protection. iCloud Mail has the advantage that the data is stored on Apple servers in the USA and is offered end-to-end encryption for all data. GMX Mail has the advantage that the data is stored on German servers and no personalized advertising is switched.
