Is epigenetics inherited?

Actually, somatic cells aren't connected to germ cells, although the latter are inherited during reproduction. Am I wrong? If not, I'm wondering to what extent environmental stimulus can epigenetically alter germ cells. I've also heard of two purge waves that would purge the epigenetic markers. Does anyone know more about this? Thanks for your answers 😉

The question cannot be answered as simple as possible, in which epigenetics is differentiated between gametic epigenetics and transgenic epigenetics.

  • The gametic epigenetics epigenetic markings can be inherited on specific genes. However, it must be said that in the first stages of embryogenesis many markings are extinguished. An inheritance is therefore possible, but not guaranteed.
  • The transgenic epigenetics environmental incentives acting on parents or grandparents can cause epigenetic changes in the germ cells, which can then be passed on to subsequent generations.

There is no scientific basis for "cleaning waves", so I can't say anything else.

Transgenic epigenetics begins gametic, the epigenetic markings last only longer (over several generations)
The difference is therefore only in the durability of the markings

The two cleansing waves should probably be during germ cell development and embryogenesis

Epigenetics is inherited when the markings are durable enough
