Is DisplayPort 2.0 compatible with a DP 1.2 monitor?
Hi, quick question. I needed a longer DP cable for my second monitor. It arrived today. Unfortunately, I noticed too late that the monitor has a 1.2 DP version and the 2.1 version doesn't work with it. I sent it back and was about to order another one. But I don't know whether I should get a 2.0 or 1.4 DP cable. Can you tell me whether 2.0 DP is sufficient for a 1.2 version monitor, or should I get a 1.4 cable or even a 1.2 cable? Unfortunately, I'm not very knowledgeable about this. Many thanks.

Alles in allem ist DisplayPort 2.0 vor allem im Gaming-Bereich enorm vielversprechend, weil es noch höhere Bildraten bei hohen Auflösungen unterstützt. Aber zunächst müssen ausreichend Grafikkarten und Bildschirme auf den Markt kommen, die den neuen Standard unterstützen. Erstere wird sich niemand allein wegen des Supports kaufen, sondern primär aufgrund der erhöhten Leistung und neuer Features. Aber DisplayPort 2.0 macht es erst möglich, dass man die zusätzliche Hardware-Power voll ausnutzen kann. Dazu braucht es jedoch einen Monitor mit DisplayPort-2.0-Eingang. Ein Bildschirm, der nur Version 1.4 unterstützt, kann das Potenzial nicht ausschöpfen, funktioniert aber. Praktischerweise ist DisplayPort 2.0 komplett abwärtskompatibel zu all seinen Vorgängern.
