Is country road or motorway more fuel efficient?
Hello,
I have to drive about 70km one way (140km total) to work every day. I can either use the motorway or a small portion of the motorway and the rest of the way on country roads. Which is more fuel efficient? I would drive on the motorway at about 100-120 km/h, but this motorway has a lot of inclines, which isn't exactly good for fuel consumption. In terms of time, it doesn't make much of a difference in my case. I also drive a diesel.
thanks in advance
You can drive the lowest speed.
If you can drive 100 on the road without constantly braking, then it is the road.
However, as on land roads there are constantly on/off journeys, which are often reduced to 70 km/h, the motorway should prove to be more brittle.
The highway is usually the better option because you don't have to brake constantly and, if traffic allows, can drive the same speed permanently.
The slopes are, of course, somewhat negative for consumption, but where it goes up, it goes down again. If you take the swing clean with you, you can also save a lot of fuel. Thanks to slip-off, you save a lot of fuel at such places.
I'd drive the highway, just because of the comfort. If you're driving the slopes properly, you'll save a lot of fuel.
Hello milo1309
On the highway you will drive more at constant speed without having to brake and accelerate again.
On the road, it will be more likely to brake and accelerate again

Motorway is more fuel-saving, as you drive there almost always at constant speed.
On the road, for example, you have to slow down with stronger curves and then accelerate again, or if you stop by localities at traffic lights or accelerate again after bending.

Motorway is fuel-saving because you are standing 120 ferry
Motorway is generally more sparing and liquid. The traffic lights and traffic jams are mostly overland or city.
