“App” is the short form of “Application”, that can be all.

But don’t think about whether you want to develop desktop or web or mobile apps, but rather choose between game and non-game development. Game development is quite different from the rest. Or you’re dealing with academic topics like machine learning, that’s something else.

The future is also on the web, at least for “classical” apps. Desktop apps, mobile apps, everything gets more and more carried to the web, simply because this is the easiest/ cheapest way for 100% cross-platform apps. This does not mean that “classic” desktop or mobile development is dead, there are still many projects that do not work on the web (so good), but it will be less. Desktop apps with web-frontend (without server behind it) are becoming more and more popular.

And don’t make the mistake of stiffening you on a technology, stretch out the sensors in other directions.

Yes, but rather as a side project, so not really as a real job.

Well, of course, everything is about AI, but web and software are also pretty good.
