Is a fog machine dangerous and is the fog flammable?
Fog machine: antari z-350 and liquid is FLG Heavy Fog:
1. Ethelene Glycol (EG) 30%
2. Distilled H2O 45%
3. Synthetic Perfume 0.5%
4. Synthetic Dye 0.5%
5. Glycerin 24%
Now my question: Since we need fog for filming, we'd like to create haze with this combination. Is this combo dangerous and flammable? I've seen a few horror stories online.
For example, if we're filming in a carpentry workshop with the machines, the smoke could ignite, or if we're filming someone welding or in the kitchen. How great is the risk, and what should we be aware of?
Thank you!
Ethylene glycol in a 30% solution is of course also combustible.
Sitting directly with the burning tip in front of the nozzle is therefore taboo.
However, once the fluid has been distributed in space, the combustible part of the solution is thus distributed in the room air, so that it can not even be smelled.
If you have concerns: The alcohol volatilizes upwards. After the fog, the windows on the tip so that the alcohol can take off – the fog itself remains below. Then close the windows again.
And: turn off smoke detectors. In industrial plants with fire alarm system (BMA) turn off the circle and post a fire alarm during the fog so that it can alarm in an emergency.
No, the fog is not combustible, and the fluid is heated in the fog machine so that it evaporates
