Iron overdose?

Since I have low iron levels (not a deficiency), I wanted to test whether taking iron tablets for a few days would make the fatigue go away. I took 50 mg of iron every day for three days but then stopped because my stools became very dark and I felt a bit nauseous. Have I overdosed on iron? Will the dark stools go away if I stop taking the tablets?

I would discuss things like iron beforehand with the doctor and not just take it myself. The correct dosage is also discussed. The chair gets darker is normal and goes away.

Yes, you probably overdosed – I would finish it right away!!!

Let your value check and then determine whether and how much you should suppliment in the future.

Am I overdosed with iron now?

ANNEX You fed more iron than the body can absorb. You’re leaving the rest. That’s why the chair is dark. You can’t overdose.

TheIron or steeltheintestinedepends on the iron requirement and can be gender-specific between 6% (man) and 12% (woman). With an increased iron requirement (e.g.Blood loss) up to 30% of theFoodare absorbed iron.

It’s over. It is no longer taken up and the rest left.

Is the dark chair going away again when no more tablets are taken?

-> This is to be assumed.

Generally, it is not recommended to take any tablets if there is no medical indication.

That the chair gets dark, even if I eat a big steak. Nausea is not so good as you like to listen to your body. How exactly did you take it?

However, I would always take iron together with the cofactors B vitamins, folic acid, vitamin C, sober and possibly Lactoferrin.

Personally I take small doses in the complex 😉

Especially iron should never be taken without medical indication. An overdose can be almost even worse than a deficiency. Therefore, please test the need by blood test beforehand.

Now you should either be advised at the pharmacy or at the doctor whether it has any consequences as it was only 3 days.

If you overdose iron, it will be too much again – just as you noticed. So it’s not a problem. but you see that you have enough of the quickly available iron. You have to test the other way.

You don’t get hurt so fast. not with 50mg. And depending on what you’ve eaten in the hours before/after, there’s not even something that’s the reason for the dark chair.

Just remember for the future if you have such a suspicion let it test. Tiredness can have many reasons. Iron is just one of them. Self-medication and something. Especially since some things help because randomly is the same time and then you think you have the proof that this thing always helps with the topic. This is extremely misleading for the doctor and oneself.

Yeah, he goes… but that’s normal for iron… nausea signals that it is too much
