Internship: got bad feedback?
I'm currently doing an internship (as part of my studies, so it's more serious) and today I received such bad feedback from my boss that I'm completing tasks poorly and slowly and not showing enough initiative. My boss is never here and rarely answers me.
I have the feeling that my female supervisor there doesn't like me at all, even though I'm always friendly and do everything :/
I'm now having so many doubts about myself that I don't even dare to ask or say anything anymore.
I had an internship before and it actually went really well.
I'm now completely doubting myself, whether I'm too stupid or whether I studied the wrong thing. Or rather, what I should do. Is this normal, or does it happen often? I'm also afraid that a bad report card will ruin my future and I'll have to explain myself to future employers.
Hello,
Don’t worry about it! Such situations may occur, but this does not mean that you are stupid or have studied the wrong. Maybe it’s about communication. Try to arrange a conversation with your boss or superior to receive constructive feedback and to clarify how you can improve. Be open and show willingness to develop.
Best regards!
As it sounds, communication and incorporation there is bad or just doesn’t fit you.
Yeah, that’s annoying, but if the other one went well, I wouldn’t get too much of it. In case of doubt, you simply leave it in the CV or if you want to mention it, just don’t add the assessment – if it doesn’t work well.
My advice: Make an appointment with the supervisor and talk concretely about what you lack and what you think didn’t run optimally in the process. It is important to name precise situations or topics and not to keep you too general. Watch carefully how well he deals with criticism, not everyone is as critical as he should be in the position.
Now nothing more to be addressed and to be silent on problems would only increase the accusation of missing own initiative.
