Internet student residence dial-up connection?
Hey people,
I recently moved into the student residence halls. Of course, there's internet access in every room, which works well and reliably. So far, so good.
To use it on my computer, I had to create a dial-up connection with a username and password. It works, but I have to reconnect the connection every time, which is a bit annoying.
- Question: Is it possible for it to connect automatically after the PC starts?
- Question: The speed is limited to 100 Mbps. Not that I need it, but can I increase it, or would I need a router in my room?
- Question: Why aren't the Microsoft login or the Microsoft Store working? It just won't load… I managed to get it working by fiddling around with the "Internet Options" using Reddit info – but the same problem occurs every time I reconnect to the PC (reboot).
P.S. By the way, I've enabled automatic connection in the internet options – but apparently it doesn't automatically connect to the dial-up network after booting up.
Thanks for your help!
Greetings
Too little info. Sounds like VPN with PPTP, which can stop Win from work.
Theoretically, it may also be that, for example, the LAN driver in your computer or WLAN adapter is built up too late. Luckily, I didn’t have that much to do with that shit…

Thank you. Unfortunately, I don’t know too much to say more.
I had to create an account with the Virtual Campus (?) so that I could establish a DFÜ connection with the login data (the virt. campus). The LAN was simply plugged in, but it did not give me an Internet connection.
by the way: the DFÜ connection runs over a PPPoE (or so similar). So broadband – more I don’t know…
Nope – there are usually “LAN from the can“
You can then access the internet via this LAN – if the admin allows it.
Please don’t go to the Internet with hardware from the 90s anymore (DFÜ-Verdindugen is no longer available!)
Especially if you want a little bit of security for your devices, a sub-LAN incl. Firewall test.
You should be connected to PCs/Laptops & Co. directly to external networks.
Irrelevant – there are no more dial connections – and if you plug in a LAN cable you are connected to a network (whichever) immediately.
If this network requires a login, Windows will ask you for it. 😉
No, that’s not a good thing.
You should give the admin of the LAN more bandwidth.
Guess you don’t have access to the internet right now.
(And leave that DFÜ-Rede. This is really only technique from 30 years ago!)
Thank you. I also think it’s very old-fashioned. I did it the way it was explained to me in the video. I can send the video link in on request!
The LAN is easy to plug in, but without internet connection. After registration he never asked me (at least not at the LAN, at the DFÜ of course already).
My colleague took a router from home and plugged his PC on it – he has about 500 mbit download and no problems like me ._.
needs – and does not want a router in the room because there is one in the apartment anyway.
