Internet on vacation/workation – mobile router vs. tethering?

Dear all,

I'm looking for a solution to stay online in Italy. I'm considering either getting a mobile Wi-Fi router with its own SIM card and connecting to the mobile network via (presumably) LTE (or possibly 5G). Or I could use my phone as a mobile hotspot. Do you have any experience with which is better?

If anyone knows of a good prepaid data plan (preferably with eSIM), I would also be grateful.

Thank you for your tips!

It depends on what you want.

If it’s just the laptop, then of course it would be a device in which you can simply insert a SIM card, the optimum.

If you want to provide several devices with Wi-Fi, then a mobile wireless router would not be trafficked.

I just walked in parallel at Deutsche Telekom under one connection (number) 2 SIM cards. One in the smartphone – one in the laptop.

As long as I stay in Europe, I do not need to worry about an alternative foreign contract.

It is equivalent to both the mobile reception. You already have the phone.

Hey,

the deciding question is how many devices and what you want to use in Italy.

And then it still depends on how much data you will need.
