My old HDD broke, so I bought a new SSD. But I heard I need to do something with a USB stick first. Can someone tell me how to do this and whether a 2GB USB stick is sufficient?

Sure, you have to replay the firmware. There are official instructions on the internet, also how big the stick must be.
