If the ignition is as rusty as you write, the contacts will be difficult to open/close, no longer properly….you would have to get it new.
Maybe the condenser is also oxidized, the ignition coil may have drawn water…
The contactless ignition in my response does not cost 30€, has 12 volts and 35watts.
You don’t have to take expensive, digital internal-rotor ignition…
