If you want to make suggestions, can you only use 'could' or does 'can' also work? Please look at these examples. Which sentence would be correct?

Context: I would like to suggest something to someone:

1 You could talk to a teacher.

2 You can speak to a teacher.

3 Both

3 – so both.

The conjunctive is more polite – ie less intrusive – formulated.

No. 3: Both are okay. But no.1 is more appealing, more corresponds to a polite and cautious proposal.

  • You can speak to a teacher. (possibility)
  • You could speak to a teacher. (Proposal)
  • You should speak to a teacher. (good advice, recommendation)
  • You have to speak to a teacher. (request, need)

It's both up, it's up to the context.
