I can often concentrate better when I have something to play with in my hands or when I'm twirling my hair or rocking my leg. Is that normal? 😂?

Hi 🙋‍♀️ I can often concentrate better on what's being said. I also stroke my hands from time to time or stroke my fingernails or something similar.
Do you think it's normal that this helps me listen better and pay more attention?
I have a physical disability and possibly autism. I've noticed that I have many symptoms of this. This will be tested as soon as possible.

Hello, dear LillyFee93112.

It is not necessarily normal, but there are people for which something is actually normal.

It calms you when you have something in your hand or do something with your hands. By calming you down, you can concentrate much better.

Perfectly normal.

It was found that movement increases concentration.

Especially if you are actually an autistic, “stimming” (so what you describe) is something completely normal, but also many neurotypical people sometimes find it helpful.

I don’t know anyone who does it, but if it helps you, no one will stop you. That’s all right.

No, it’s not normal.

Probably you are neurodivergent, because tuning is a very typical symptom of people with ADHD or ASS. Have you been examined?

That sounds great, I’m glad your parents take care of it. Then you’ll get a diagnosis soon. The tuning at least is really nothing bad or worrying. If it helps you with concentration or to regulate stress/extension, then it is good.
