ICE: Stop canceled. What should I do?
Good day.
Two weeks ago, I booked a trip from Aachen Hbf to Leipzig Hbf. It will travel from Aachen Hbf to Frankfurt (ICE 13) and then from Frankfurt Hbf to Leipzig Hbf (ICE 690). Seats have also been reserved.
Now I've noticed in the app that the first train (ICE 13) no longer stops in Frankfurt. The message says "Stop canceled." It seems to only go as far as Cologne.
A refund is not possible because I am traveling on business and therefore have to arrive.
My questions would be:
- Could I take a train that arrives earlier? (Even ICE trains)
- Can I board any train that also takes me to Frankfurt? For example, from Cologne Trade Fair to Frankfurt.
- Or is there always a replacement train?
- What about my seat reservation?
It is my first journey by long-distance train.
Edit: It is a saver fare ticket with a specific train.
Thank you very much in advance.
Due to construction work, ICE 13 runs from 15th to 18th September 2022 only until Frankfurt Airport instead of Frankfurt Hbf.
Nevertheless, you can arrive at your destination without delay. Just take the ICE 13 to Frankfurt Airport (arrival 11:17am). Then climb at the airport to ICE 623 (departure 11:36) to Frankfurt Main Station (11:48). You can reach the ICE 690 departing from Leipzig at 12:14 a.m.
According to Bahn.de, the ICE 13 should not be in Frankfurt (M) airport. It is time 09:39–11:17 for the day 18.07.
Ah, I see that now. “Störung” is given as the reason for the failure of the ICE 13 from Cologne Hbf. No very meaningful reason…
The DB schedule show suggests that you take a train from Cologne Hbf to the other Rhine side to Cologne Messe/Deutz and get there at 10:34 a.m. to Frankfurt Hbf. He will then be in Frankfurt Hbf at 11.48 a.m., where you will reach your scheduled ICE 690 to Leipzig.
You can do all this with your ticket without having to rebook anything. You don’t have a reservation in ICE 690, but you can just search for some place.
You can also get any other connection from Aachen to Leipzig on 18. Choose July. Due to the fact that your train actually booked is cancelled between Cologne and Frankfurt, any train binding is automatically omitted.
Hopefully it works. Thank you for your detailed answer!
You have to go to the train and make a rebooking.
Good luck with that.
This answer is wrong. The ticket is still valid. It can be used for any replacement connection from Aachen to Leipzig on the same day, for example for the one I gave in my answer. A (free) rebooking is only necessary if seats are to be reserved in the chosen train.
-> Without rebooking no seat reservation in the other train.
I had such a similar case: Should change in Nuremberg and received some time before the trip a message that the trip is not possible because by short-term construction work or similar the train should drive to Nuremberg later and I would not reach the follow-up in Nuremberg.
I then printed the ticket in DIN A4 and I’m a switch that explained it, and he gave me one stamp that the binding is cancelled; that’s good so that the inspector on the train also knows about it, and yet another expression of connections I can take instead.
