I would like to know if the hub dynamo works?

I recently acquired a voltmeter. How exactly do I use the tester to determine whether the part is working or not? The wheel shouldn't be installed in the frame.

If you have a digital multimeter, it could be a little complicated. The dynamo emits alternating voltage, but not at 50Hz as in the power grid, but more or less depending on the speed.

A correct display in the AC voltage range could therefore fail if the measuring device cannot process the lower frequency.

In the DC voltage range, the digital display will be too sluggish to be able to display maximum values of the voltage, although slower but constantly recurring.

The only way I see is to make a rectification with diodes and then to measure the DC voltage.

You need to compensate for the missing installation with an at least one-sided attachment. Turning the axis with the hand brings only very poorly measurable results because much too slow.

Here you have a really good video guide. It shows how to measure correctly. Extra for beginners.
