I don't need the semester ticket. What should I do?

Hello,

Of my tuition fee of approximately €270, €120 is for the semester ticket alone. Since it takes me about 50 minutes to get to university by car and two hours by train with frequent transfers, I haven't needed my semester ticket yet. Neither this semester nor the last. Is there any way to avoid paying for the semester ticket? I'm paying for a service I'll never use. I don't even want one…

I hope you know more about this and can help me if necessary.

No, this option is only available in exceptional cases, such as severe disabilities. Even then, it's difficult. The ticket is relatively inexpensive, and that's only because all students receive and pay for it. You will still have to pay for it, even if you don't use it.

No, you have to pay the full tuition fee, even if you don't need some of the benefits included. The tuition fee includes some of the benefits you use, but not others. One balances out the other. Yes, €120 is a lot of money as a student. But I don't think you'll be successful.

No, you have to pay everything

Many have tried this and failed. The whole point of such a solidarity principle is that even those who do not or rarely use the service pay. See, for example, health insurance.

No, it's a principle of solidarity. Everyone has to pay, regardless of whether they use it or not.

The only exception would be if you have a severely disabled person's pass with entitlement to free use of public transport

As far as I know, you can't ignore that!

The universities negotiate with the public transport companies based on the number of students and this is the only way to get such low prices!

Plus, you can also use this ticket for weekend trips to other cities in the state. That way, at least you'll get your money's worth!

You can still ask, but please be prepared for a rejection…

Good luck with your studies 😉

ask at your student office

If that were possible, students who are only enrolled pro forma should be able to request a full refund. That can't be right.
