Dog eats dry food from hand but not from bowl?

Hey,

We've had a new dog for about a week now (m/2 years old). He's settled in well so far. We've had a few problems with his previous food, which he wouldn't eat. Neither as a snack (we tried to get him to eat at least something) nor as his main meal. Then we switched to wet food and he had no problems with it. But now, following the vet's advice, we wanted to go back to dry food. So we got him some good food. After a few initial problems, he's now eating his dry food. It seems as if he really enjoys it, although now he only eats it from our hand. The food is in the bowl, the bowl where it always is. We give him food from the bowl and it's no problem. But as soon as he's supposed to eat on his own, he doesn't want to anymore. Even if we go away.

We also briefly swapped the stainless steel pot for a plastic one so he wouldn't see his reflection. That didn't help.

Have you had similar experiences? How did you solve the problem? We also always put our hand a little bit into the bowl, so he might be more motivated and see that the bowl isn't a monster. But that doesn't help either.

At first I would have thought that he might be afraid of the noise with the stainless steel bowl, but as described this in a plastic bowl has not changed, you can exclude it with the fear. I have a Chihuahua bitch who is a very bad eater, it is also only out of hand or if it is free on the ground. Try to put the dry food on the ground anyway, maybe he just experienced something with a bowl that scared him or does not know to eat it. Just give him time.

I’d just give him wet food if he likes it. Especially for overweight, dry food is worse, which makes faster thick. And the many carbohydrates in there are also not beneficial for the joints (wet food with only meat also not!).

So good wet food, then the dog is happy and he eats. You can use the dry food as a leak.

I don’t understand why the dog should eat dry food if he likes wet food?

But if you mean, mix him with a spoon of wet food under the dry food. Then it goes.😊

Heyy so I don’t know myself so well with the eating behavior of dogs, but in most cats this is so that they eat it out of too small a bowl or drink as their whiskers bump at the edges and this is very unpleasant for this,Maybe it could be like that in your dog too
