Chickens kidnapped?

We came into the coop today and 5 chickens were missing, and there were lots of feathers everywhere on the fence.

We found one half-eaten and the other was just killed and lying in the forest.

Unfortunately, we didn't find the other three.

What could that have been?

Probably Marder. They often kill more animals than they eat, but they do not eat out of malice or bleeding. It is because animals in a stable cannot really escape fast enough when they are panic so the marten always has prey and continues to kill instinctively. This is also the reason why wolves in a fenced graze when they penetrate many animals simply kill because the animals cannot flee and wolves always see prey.

Many return when they succeed.

I actually thought the marten left the chickens he killed and can’t eat anymore because there are too many.

I’d say Marder. A fox usually only catches a chicken and goes with it. Marders can fall into a kind of blood rush in which they can already bite all chickens dead.

For the future: secure stable better!

He’s coming with us every 10 years. You’ll be sloppy with stables in the long run. And eventually it happens.

If he could get the animals, the animals are not properly protected. Chickens must be locked in a stable at night, or they’ll get an animal.

Koyote probably. They love eating chickens away.

But may also have been wolves.
