HTML, rich text and plain text?
Hey people,
Is rich text based on HTML? Especially when it comes to sending emails?
For me it is like this:
Plain text email: Pure text message without formatting
Email as HTML message: HTML formatted text message
Email as rich text : Formatted message based on HTML , but in a slimmed down form OR a formatted message based on RTF – a competitor to HTML in terms of email formatting.
Hi,
the RTF format serves as a text format for form-arted text and can be created or read independently of the program. It has nothing to do with HTML and has peculiarities that, although HTML or XML resemble, but still a proprietary technology is developed by Microsoft. RTF also uses very specific control characters that are not close to HTML in the context of HTML element(tags).
Hey, Mirko, thank you for the answer. But in some programs (e.g. OTRS), you have to activate Richtext to view HTML messages. Then why don’t they write HTML?
Hi, I can answer them. Rich text is not equal to Rich text format. One is an appropriate text format and the other is a term. Rich text means formatted text in many cases and usually it is displayed in HTML.
Ahh, that’s very good to know. Have nowhere read that there are two different terms. Thank you.
No. It is a separate development of Microsoft to exchange texts between different programs and operating systems.
The syntax is much simpler similar to HTML.
But in some programs you have to activate Richtext to view HTML messages. Then why don’t they write HTML?
Because just M$ and the rotten fruit like to turn their own thing.
But the programs (OTRS) are not based on Microsoft and if you activate Richtext, you can send/read HTML formatted messages.
With MS programs, I could still understand.
