How to restore a new PC with a complete old PC backup?

Hello folks,

I'm expecting a new computer tomorrow that has 2 SSD hard drives.

My old computer contains a lot of important data and programs. I would like to be able to completely migrate my old PC onto my new computer. I tried the system image feature, but it didn't work because of corrupted clusters on the external SSD.

I think the old computer is not up to date (Win10) and the new computer comes as an AiO (Win11) with possibly different drivers.

In your opinion, how can I easily transfer all data/settings/programs to the new PC?

I would be very happy to receive an answer.

Thank you

YD

Hey,

If Windows etc is still on one of the hard drives on it, you can simply install them in the other computer and then it should run exactly as your old computer with the old data etc.

You don’t get around installing all the programs on the new PC. What’s on the Win10 should also run on Win11. So if you have the required licenses, you should download and install latest versions of the software from the manufacturer’s pages. The same applies to any driver for printers, scanners etc.

Your other data should already be on an external drive in the form of a backup.

Maybe you should get a NAS device and accustom your data such as documents, images etc. directly there. An older NAS such as ds215j or ds214 from Synology is used to buy very cheaply and as a pure data grave and as a DLNA server the two models are completely sufficient.

In the future, this will save you the constant problems with data migration and in connection with a cloud provider, it will even take you off the task of data backup. Encoded automatically and naturally.

The device is connected via network cable directly to the router or router modem (e.g. Fritzbox) and then functions netzinzern as a network drive.

If desired, data can also be accessed from the Internet. That’s all the attitudes.

P.S. Your 3.5″ hard drives from the old PC can be installed in the NAS and used further. So you can buy a synology without hard drives. This further reduces the purchase price by a few euros.

However, consider that the hard drives are completely re-formatted. So secure all data before.
