How to install HDD in laptop?
I have an HP Pavilion 15-dq1450ng and want to install a 2.5 inch HDD as additional storage to my SSD.
So I unscrewed it and took out the dummy. Now, however, the dummy was just clipped in, and there's neither a SATA cable to connect the HDD nor a mounting frame to screw it into. I only have a plastic cutout that the HDD fits into based on its size.
A SATA adapter is easy to buy on the internet – I've already found one, but does anyone know which bracket needs to go in there or do I have to glue the HDD in there?
It sounds like your laptop does not have a 2.5-inch HDD mount, but only a recess into which the HDD can be inserted. In this case, you do not need a mount to install the HDD. You can easily insert the HDD into the recess and connect it to your laptop with a SATA-to-USB adapter cable. Make sure that the HDD is stuck in the recess so that it cannot slip during operation.
However, if you intend to use the HDD as a primary storage medium and to remove it regularly and reuse it, I recommend buying an external HDD holder. These mounts are equipped with a separate housing in which the HDD is inserted and provide space for a SATA cable, so that the HDD can be connected to your laptop. You can easily connect the mount to a USB port of your laptop if you want to use the HDD.
Ok, thank you, but I still have a small hook in the cutout, which raises the hard drive on one side and cannot be right. You want me to break the little hook out?

I would simply stick the HDD/SSD with double-sided tape.
It's best anyway!
The HDD is fixed only over the small noses.
However, as already recommended here, would also work with a little double adhesive tape.
