How to improve?

So, I'm having trouble with comma placement. I know there are many rules, like main and subordinate clauses, etc. I want to improve—but how? Even a few steps would help me. I'm asking for some tips.
I have a German exam coming up soon and I often get points deducted.

A very helpful rule is that between two conjugated verbs a comma must always stand somewhere. So if you are not sure if the sentence requires a comma or not, you can orient it.

(Conjugated means that the verb is adapted to a person, e.g. we sing, the children go etc., are not conjugated, e.g. infinitive forms, as in the formulation “I want to sing”, there would be singing the infinitive and would like the conjugated verb or participle, as conjugated in the formulation “I have gone”, there the partizip and bin conjug.

You have to see when a sentence is sent and a new one begins.

Next is, to recognize coherent parts and put in commas if they are not connected to a “and”. The same applies to: Countings: “In the apron are red, blue, yellow and white clothes clips.”

Also read good books or literary texts – you see the examples.
