How to fill out financial forms correctly?
Hello Community,
quick question for you π How do you do it correctly?
I often fill out forms/applications that require me to provide financial information.
For example, if I enter a positive amount, I would write: '-250.50β¬' (This is a credit of 250.50β¬ even though I put a '-' sign in front of the amount. I assume this is correct.)
But if I enter a negative amount I write 'DEBT -250.50β¬'.
I suspect that this is not the usual spelling used on government forms.
Banks have a common way of writing bank statements, e.g. an H (for credit) or an S (for debit) is written in front of the amounts.
Is there a common way of writing negative amounts that can be used when filling out forms from authorities?

Balance is written “250,50 ⬔. Right, what you suspect is not the usual way of writing.
A line before a number basically means minus.
So -250,50 β¬.
Unless there are fields in which “goods” or “Schools”.
Then the respective amount is entered there without sign.
Thank you kiniro. That’s really good to know.
In future, I will no longer specify a ‘-‘ in advance, such as ‘-250,50β¬’.
I might have understood it this way (possibly wrong) and advertised the ‘-‘ not as a ‘minus’ but as a ‘binding line’ that is presumed in general before, so to say in this way as ‘signs for an amount’ which indicates that it is a sum of money but not as a calculation mark, that is to say ‘minus sign’ which indicates that it is a negative amount. So if the ‘-‘ sign is generally valued as ‘minus’ sign or indicates that it is a negative amount or indicates that it is debt or debt. This is supposed to be the way you want to write it, and I don’t need to write it extra.
So the form asks a question of an amount and there is a response possibility to enter an amount, so it must be filled out in this field in which you enter the amount, also at the same time, whether it is a positive or negative amount. So the question does not have an extra selection possibility in which one can set a cross to the amount whether it is debt or credit. That is why I was looking for a general/detailed response possibility to indicate that it is debt. I always wrote ‘SOLL’/’SCHULDEN’ before but ‘SOLL’/’S’ is used only for banks, and ‘SCHULDEN’ I thought out myself. But I am not sure now whether a simple ‘minus’/’-‘ before the amount is actually understood. I think I’d rather stay with the opaque, possibly superfluous formulation that I always write SCHULDER before it.
I thank you for your help and suspect that you are perfectly right that a ‘-‘/minus sign indicates a negative amount and that is generally understood. I think it’s great if it’s a more exclusive option, such as a ‘S’ or a ‘H’ gaebe, to make this more visible.
