How to change writing style?

Hey 👋

I'm currently writing a book in my free time. I'd like to jump from the perspective of the first main character to the second. There will be a third part with the third perspective. I've now reached the second girl, and I realize it's completely overwhelming, as I really want to adapt my writing style to the character. But I notice myself starting to make similar comparisons, etc.

Do you have any tips on how I can achieve this better?

So, I've already created a profile, with weaknesses, strengths, favorite foods, habits, etc. So, the first person is more dreamy, philosophical, and uses more complicated sentences. The second person is more straightforward and writes shorter, more slangy sentences than the first. The third person will have a more matter-of-fact writing style, with less emotion and more analysis of things, and a bit more professional. I still can't quite get it right.

So, long story short: Do you have any tactics and ideas to change your writing style and break familiar patterns?

I know the problem of my own stories. When I use a new person as a narrator, she likes to listen to it first like the old one.

My solution is: Don’t worry about it. It’s perfectly normal that you don’t even break your patterns. Don’t give yourself your writing flow at the beginning, but be aware of the formulations you use to find yourself in the new writing style. It’s not bad at all if it doesn’t work perfectly right away. For the first time, everything has to be revised again. In this case, formulations that still listen to the other narrator are also rewritten.

By the way, I learned the time to change between my different narrators. So it’s just a little practice thing, as much as writing.

According to my experience, this goes automatically when you really immerse yourself in the figure. You should know them well

Yeah, write the story with three real people. If you take two of your friends and you.

For this reason, I never write my novels from the perspective of my heroes, but I always use a narrator. Nevertheless, I can immerse myself in the thoughts of the protagonists at any time.

I can jump back and forth and don’t have to remain in the view of a person. That’s much easier.
