How should I deal with this, being too sensitive?

Good evening everyone,

First of all: I am generally very sensitive and love animals.

On the actual topic: I was just about to drive home, but then a fox got under the wheels of the car in front of me. Naturally, the person in front of me and I stopped and called the police (I don't know what happened next, as the other driver thought I could drive). Anyway, I saw the fox lying on the side of the road. Its feet were moving, breathing rapidly. It was only looking in one direction, and blood was coming out of its mouth. It was just horrible. I can't sleep, and I feel so sorry for the animal. I know some people say I'm exaggerating, but I absolutely can't handle it.

Best regards and thank you in advance for the answers..

No matter how many people say that this is quickly forgotten: I disagree.

As a child (11 or 12), I was standing by when a cat was run over. It was a stupid mistake by the owner, who let the panicked cat go when the car approached. The cat, of course, wanted to cross the street and get home.

I cried for a long time; I couldn't walk past without seeing the images again. Even today (10 years later), I think about them whenever I drive through there.

Talk about it with people you trust. You might even seek counseling, but try to talk about it.

Yes, people are different. I'm already old. I also feel compassion for animals. Even when I smack flies and mosquitoes, it's important to me that they die immediately.

And I'm a farmer. As the only son, destined to take over the farm. I know my animals will be slaughtered. But I feel sorry for every animal. When I was younger, even more so than today. I eat meat, too.

Once upon a time, there were hunter-gatherers. I would probably have been more of a gatherer. But before you die, you also kill animals. Back then, you couldn't afford to feel sorry for animals. A wolf or a lion doesn't feel sorry for animals either. And in nature, many animals die a more painful death than being slaughtered or run over by a car. Young are born every year, but the animals don't live any longer. They die, freeze, die of disease, or are eaten by other animals.

Of course there are worse things. There always are.

Although my main problem with eating meat is the absolutely poor treatment. But that wasn't the point here.

In general, the only thing that helps is distraction or mental stimulation, i.e. doing difficult things with your head.

I'm in the FF and have seen worse things myself and already have PTSD (I'm not even 25 yet).

After missions like this, I like to gamble until I can no longer maintain my grades and I get a letter of release from the fire department or the commander, because then I have an appointment with a psychologist to help me process things like that better.

Hmm, maybe talk to your family, friends, etc. about it, or if it's really affecting you, maybe a pastor, or if you're religious, a priest. Sorry if I couldn't help you, but if I could, I wish you strength, and hopefully the animal too 🙂

How things probably continued, the fox was put down or died shortly after you left. But since you probably couldn't have prevented it, nor can you do anything about it now, there aren't many options. Depending on what works best for you—which is different for everyone—you can deal with it, distract yourself, or talk to other people. You'll have to figure out for yourself which of these helps.

I hope you find relief with

– talk to the priest if you are religious

– Love of plants / cultivation / care

– have a stuffed animal and confide your wishes and dreams
