How much does it cost to have a rust hole welded?

Hi everyone, a friend of mine has a rust hole in the sill of his BMW e38. According to the garage, the entire sill needs to be replaced, but it's actually a relatively small rust spot (about 5 x 5 cm). Can a sill be welded so well that no new rust will form, and how much would it cost?

Thanks for your answers!

"Can you weld a sill so well that no new rust will form…"

Yes and no! Experience shows that sills rust from the inside out, and we don't know what it looks like there.

"How much would that cost?"

Rustically welded: (sheet metal spotted over, filled and painted) between friends 50 euros cash in the bank!

Expertly welded: Damaged area cut out extensively and matching sheet metal butt welded in (by a gifted virtuoso of the welding machine), afterwards with a completely flat surface, filled, sanded, filled and painted:

250 tons … €

Welding, filling, painting – I think €300-500 should be enough.

Depends on how it's done. A small sheet of metal will cost 15 to 20 euros, fill the rest, and paint it yourself. If you remove the rust very well and seal the cavity, no one will come back so quickly.

But for €15-20, a friend will have to do it. The repair shop won't turn on the welding machine for that.
