When I think back to my school days, I paid attention in class and actively participated, always doing my homework. That helped the battle. In the subjects I studied (biology, geography, history), I just looked at the material in my notebook. Then I quickly skimmed through it again the next day on the school bus (about 40 minutes).
Before school assignments, I split the material up over about three days and only reviewed it on the third day. It always worked well that way.
I never really studied. I went out after school, did my homework in bed at night, and before an exam, we studied enough at school, so I didn't need to study after school anymore.

Varies. Usually 2/3 hours per day
