How long would it take us to build the Great Pyramid of Cheops with our current technology and the same number of workers? (Please explain)

By today's standards, it would be unprofitable and uneconomical to employ 25,000 people for construction. It was once calculated that with the necessary machinery, the pyramid could be built in six years for just under $6 billion. At any given time, more than a few hundred people would be employed on the construction site.

However, it would take so long to get the building permit and structural analysis that the construction site would be swallowed up by the desert again.

The construction itself could probably be completed in a fraction of the time, but today it would probably fail due to the building permit and the remaining bureaucracy.

It would NEVER be built. Why?

  • Preliminary building application, designation of building area
  • Objection of the upper sand authority
  • Lawsuit in front of the big sandbox
  • Demonstration against the explosion of the sand flea from its habitat
  • Lawsuit because of this
  • Won the lawsuit, but now:
  • Objection and injunction, because: the rare desert fox with white eyes and a black ring on its tail has been spotted
  • Relocation is not acceptable for the animal, and the den has not been found, but a transport cage and tire tracks have been found.
  • The religious representative raises concerns: The thing would be higher than the Kaba – that's not possible!
  • The structural engineer says: the thing won't hold, and it isn't clear what wind force is to be expected
  • A competition for ideas was held. A design with a height of 300 meters, four minarets, and a large, shady dome beneath which three fountains would be installed failed – they could just build a kind of Eiffel Tower.
  • Favorite: a stone block with a 20x20m base area and 3m height – at 10 times the price of the failed design
  • It is revealed that the architect who won the competition was against the sand flea – from the very beginning
  • ……
  • Financing is not available
  • The sand diggers' union raises concerns because some sand was found in a teacup
  • ….

As you can see, it just isn't working. Furthermore, there's confusion about the height and color of the construction fence to secure the site.

  • An agreement is reached on a reusable construction fence made of bamboo
  • The construction fence will not be delivered due to a China embargo
  • Bamboo is now grown locally
  • After 10 years, the required amount of bamboo is reached. Unfortunately, the file containing its appearance was accidentally deleted.
  • After another 8 years, there is a 5m long prototype of a sample construction fence
  • The construction fence collapsed during the great summer-autumn desert storm. A commission of experts is investigating the cause.
  • After six years, it's clear: the storm shouldn't have been so strong. The bamboo growers must pay a €500,000 fine to the Plastic Beacon Company.

Unrealistic? Hardly. Safety lies in inhibition. And safety comes first, that's important, right?

That was a practical answer
