How long does red cabbage last in a jar?
Hello,
So, last year before Christmas, I prepared what felt like a ton of red cabbage and canned it in jars. Now I have two jars left, and I wanted to use them up soon so I can make more before Christmas. I'm convinced it's still good. I learned from my grandmother that preserves can last for a hundred years. Still, just out of curiosity, I wanted to ask if there's a rule that says how long homemade preserves will keep.
Thank you in advance for all serious and useful answers 🙂
Eternally, if it’s not blown. At least it can fade out sometime…
Yeah, I’ve seen that before, but I think that bleaching somehow affects the taste, right?
Usually not, at least not so fast.
Open it and smell it
That was not what I wanted to know, of course I can open it up and smell it, but I want to know if there is a basic rule. I do not want to unnecessarily screw up a glass and thus impair the shelf life only to know if it is still good, or only after opening notice that it has become bad and then need to shake an emergency plan for food out of the sleeve. But thanks for your answer
You’re trying to get it. So you have to open it like that.
