Everyone pretends it’s a chord work to write a book. What’s the time to do with it? Even pianists play Liszt`s love space almost as if it had a competition, an Olympics! Goethe has on his poem: I went so quietly before me to find nothing, that was my sense…” worked nine years. I myself finished a thin manuscript with about 150 aphorisms after seven years. And Schopenhauer has worked on his famous translation by Gracians Handorakel also six years or longer, and only 30 years later it was published! So: Allgemach!

I’ve done a good two pages within an hour, but there’s already a plan and thinking about it. Every day I wrote about four hours and then had a chapter of 8-10 pages length. And that was very exhausting. At the end of the book, I went through everything again two times, once to improve content errors and once more especially for spelling or grammar errors. All in all, I came out for my 464 pages at about 300h. All about 3-4 months. This is the first book I wrote.

Depends on the author. If the author is good and has prepared everything ( Storyline, characters and everything else) it can only take a short month.

However, if you have nothing prepared and want to write a 300-500 page book cold, it can take much longer and is usually much more stressful.

It is also added that the authors not only write books but also have a life outside it. Family etc.

About 400 pages

  • per day max. 20 pages, including the first correction reading should be created – that would be approx. 20 full days (approximately 1 month). That’s a lot of text a day.
  • Story-Preparation: Find and Edit Storyline, Characters; possibly. Search according to topic; plan rough layout of the plot. At least 2-4 weeks
  • Cover layout; possibly. Find a picture, summary for text, imprint maybe 1-2 weeks (depending on artistic inspiration).

Then after about 2 months of hard work the first version would be there.

But if a “Hängertag” = inspirative break or something comes in – that goes fast, should be another 1-2 weeks buffer in it.

After that, possibly the sample reading by third parties comes with discussions and possibly. – barely estimable.

Under three months, I wouldn’t plan. Other social contacts are not included. This is also so intense when you start at zero and want to produce some quality.

Depends on several things:

  • Author’s Experience (First Work?)
  • Perfectionism of the author
  • Frustration tolerance of the author (not to underestimate!)
  • Time of the author
  • Content of the book (books with large world building last, for example, very long)
  • is the idea already fixed or does the author still have to think it out?
  • Is the book a sequel (write then usually faster)
  • General: Author’s talent & intelligence

This can be quite different. It depends on the time and creativity you use for it.

I think it takes a lot longer to write twice as long as read takes. I’d say half a year, so think about everything together, you can’t write every day and if that’s 20-30 pages, sometimes more or less, but I honestly don’t know.

At the answer I recognize that you don’t have much to write with! For a good book you need approx. One year! It depends on what you write… a normal novel or an autobiography!

This comes to this “man”, ergo: to the author.

I needed 9 months for my first book.

The third lasted 16 years because it had to “ripen”.

Another one was screwed together in two months because I already had the building blocks for it.

You can’t answer this question on a flat-rate basis. It also depends on how much time you can do so.

An author in the main profession may write it in half a year. Whoever writes aside, needs a year and longer.

There are several correction rounds, which also takes a lot of time.

I wrote a book (previously): 232 pages and used everything in all 1 1/2 years.
