How long does it take for electricity providers to accept new customers?

I canceled my EON contract in the first third of December. I was on basic service there, and there was a price increase that was absolutely unacceptable.

I selected a new provider through Verivox and started the process. The switch was effective January 1, 2025. It wasn't accepted, and I received a letter from EON, welcoming me to basic service. 👹

So, now I have to cancel my contract again.

Does anyone here know the shortest notice period for a change?

Of course, I will be calling and emailing across Germany tomorrow to find out what is happening, or rather, what has NOT happened.

What is annoying is the additional time expenditure.

Since there was a price increase, I had to cancel my contract myself; the new provider cannot carry out a change in this case.

You’re with E-ON. It’s not that fast.

Since you have canceled yourself and you will also have proof of the access of the termination at E-ON, you can compare it with the notice period and then you can determine whether you have terminated in time and E-ON simply snores or whether it is too late for a change to 1. January arrived.

If your new contract partner has not accepted you, there are also reasons for this. You should inform them if possible, and you will not necessarily receive information from the “new one”. Try it at a different provider.

Look at E-ON whether you don’t get a much cheaper price when you complete a runtime contract.

First, you should call your desired provider and ask why your order was rejected. They can look in the system and tell you what it was and, if necessary, cancel you with the basic service (duration of 14 days).

There may not have been any delays, otherwise there would have been no rejection, but you would simply have contracted a few days later.

Sometimes it’s just a wrong order, a wrong way of supply or just the credit. But that can only tell you the desired provider.

Don’t call and mail. Mostly the answer comes too late and raises more questions. Calling brings the solution in a short time.

I also called the new company a few days ago, and because EON increased to February, the new Stom Provider also announced directly for me, and I already had a confirmation of EON running smoothly.

If you have a price increase, you have a special right to cancel, this must be the customer himself.

A rejection of the new provider can have various causes, such as credit quality or very often heat flow and night storage or heat pumps, because this does not provide all suppliers.

If the work is too much and complicated then there are people like me who care about such topics and who always have a look at the contracts of the customers.

The municipal works here with us have also told me with a special right to terminate them. Then I called another provider on the net and they also announced for me and I already have the confirmation.
