How long does it take an editor to work through a book?
Let’s assume an average of 200 pages.
It's quite difficult to find anything about it online. Some people report 10-12 weeks, some say a month, and others probably won't even get their book back with corrections.
(My ex was a lecturer) as soon as he can dedicate himself to your book (so it is not for weeks before), and provided he really works it thoroughly: 4-8 days á 8h, depending on how good or bad it is, how much to do
In itself, a editor might need a week to work through a book.
Typically, however, much will be to be done, several books will be governed. A submitted manuscript will probably have to wait a longer time, for the more rare case, that it comes in the narrower selection.
From this, this is probably the smallest problem – more likely (default) failures or even no feedback are the reality.
If you send your manuscript as a new author, you will probably be notified after three to four weeks, rejecting 99.999 %.
I suspect that almost always is rejected due to the accompanying expo lake without anyone looking into the manuscript. In a few cases, a editor reads the manuscript, some pages. It’s not going to happen.
Of course, this depends on whether, as here, a hired editor or a freelance worker speaks.
A editor employed at a publisher needs about a week for a book and most publishers also have a two-leector. A freelance editor logically has no colleagues who can take off his work and have to process several orders at the same time alone, then two weeks to one and a half months are common.
Normally, however, this deadline is also communicated. In a publishing house you can contact your own editor at any time, with a freelance editor you should keep the period in advance contractually.

This applies very much to the subject of the book – and whether it is a translation that needs to be revised in terms of content. When I was still working accordingly, “I created” approx. 20 pages (popular science books on geography, geology, geology, guides, etc.).
Nothing is corrected. Either you get a rejection or not. The response time is between four and twelve weeks. You also do not send a whole book to the publisher, but a cover letter, exposé and a text sample, exactly according to the publisher’s specifications. It’s 99% in the ton. If you are one per cent whose manuscript is requested, then the editor works with you for months.
