It’s been a lot of mischief with the bug codes lately.

The original concept was that 4xxx are temporary errors and that 5xx are permanent errors.

So it should be assumed at 523 that the error is permanent.

Quatsch, 4xx has always been a client-sided and 5xx a server-side error

Thank you, too. I do not think the interpretation is bad, because it is often impossible to say whether the error is permanent or what is permanent.

I know the RFC in 1945 (when I answered for the first time, not).

You’re right.

I don’t like that the 4xx and 5xx codes are interpreted differently. But my personal opinion is not relevant.

Nevertheless, I wish you a nice weekend. ECT

Best regards – Axel

Of course I referred to HTTP, the FTP status codes have nothing to do with it! In the first specification, the HTTP codes were defined as: https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc1945.html#section-9 This has never had anything to do with the FTP codes…

At the times when the three-numbered error code system and the “old” protocols such as FTP were specified, no one thought of HTTP. You said “soever” and that was more than 50 years ago.

This is about a website and therefore about http codes and not FTP
