How long does a prepayment transfer take?

Hello,

I ordered something online the day before yesterday and transferred the money in advance yesterday. Now, since the order status is pending payment, I wanted to ask how long it will take before I can worry. The IBAN to which the transfer was made begins with AT22 (I think that's Austria).

How long can a transfer be “in transit”?

Regulations regarding the execution deadlines for transfers to be observed by a payment service provider can be found in Section 675s of the German Civil Code (BGB). The term "payment service provider" includes, in particular, banks or e-money institutions. The following deadlines apply to the payment service provider of the customer placing the order:

  • 1 business day for transfers in euros within the EEA,
  • 2 business days for transfers in euros within the EEA that are ordered using a transfer form (i.e. with a receipt),
  • 4 business days for transfers within the EEA that are not made in euros, even if the transfer is ordered using a transfer form (i.e. with a receipt),
  • no deadline for transfers outside the EEA.

In my opinion, it always depends on the bank. The same bank is a bit faster, while a different bank can easily take 2-3 days to process the money. Unless you made the transfer immediately.

This has to be booked by the recipient first. It can take a few days before the payment is reported as "Payment received."
