How does the time change when combining time difference and daylight saving time?

Hello,

There is a time difference around the world, so if you fly to Spain, for example, you set the time back at an hour.

What happens if this time difference coincides with the time change for countries that do not have daylight saving time and I meet someone from such a country online, for example?
What is the time difference between the two countries (does this change due to the time change)?

I look forward to meaningful answers!

Well, it's going to change. It is also necessary to take into account that the time conversion takes place in other time zones at other times.

Let's stay with the example Spain. They also have the CET or CESZ. The Canaries are back an hour.

It's only 2 am on Sunday. A few seconds later, it's 2 am and a few seconds. There, too. For the Canaries the time will only be returned an hour later. So we have the same time for about an hour. Then put their watches back and the one hour difference is back.

I flew to the Canary Islands years ago. Exactly the day when the watches were turned. Early as a clock. We must not miss the plane;) Then on the plane, the pilot said you should return. On the day one has already practiced 🙂

Hello Miezmauschel,

that actually depends entirely on the corresponding time zones. I will always assume in the following that one of them is the German time including time change. I like to work with space and therefore have to do with a variety of time zones every day. At the time, everything becomes very unclear. There are different circumstances:

Time conversion takes place at the same time

This is the simplest case; If the time change takes place at the same time (example: French mainland – which is in the same time zone as we (CET/CEST))) nothing changes in the conversion between these two. (My last point is an exception).

Time changes in both countries – but not at the same time

Many countries change very grouped. There are a few days when a large part of the changes take place (examples are here the 27th). October or 2 November (for this half-year)). Nevertheless, there can be certain daily differences. In this case, the conversion for these few days towards the west would be to take an hour at short notice (larger distance) and to leave the east for an hour (small distance) (this was the most likely case that we would change as the first one – otherwise it would naturally have turned around).

But not only the date counts; but also the general position of the time zone. If the corresponding country hangs us for example 1 hour and they still change between 02:00 and 03:00 (do not do all countries), this happens one hour later. Then the above-mentioned difference prevails just as much, only significantly shorter and for a few hours. (Also the last point is an exception to all)

Time conversion takes place only in one of the two countries

One example would be the coordinated world time UTC, Japan JST or Argentina ART (see last point for exception). In this case, the previous point applies, but in the long term. Thus, in winter, one expects less difference with one hour and in summer with one hour more difference in direction west and the other direction east (there is logically no influence on who changes first).

Countries are on different hemispheres

If one of the countries in question is on the southern hemisphere and one on the northern hemisphere, I wish that one had a great deal of fun to turn everything described above basically. Since the summer and thus the summer time begins on the southern hemisphere, set them an hour before instead of one. As a result, it can happen that only 1 hour and after 5 days, even 2 hours of time difference are added (or just removed) or you jump for example immediately two hours.

I as someone who really has to fight twice a year (not only that I'm getting up an hour more or later) would like to accept it very gratefully if this would finally stop with the summer/winter time. I hope I could help you!

does this change due to the time change?

Sura. There is also another hour of difference.

I have a relationship in Southeast Asia. They are 6 hours ahead of us in summer, 7 hours ahead in winter. Example if we do with those video call:

  • Summer: in Germany it is 6 pm, where midnight
  • Winter: in Germany is 6 pm, with which 1 am

You have to plan accordingly if you want to make calls. Either they're still awake or they're asleep deep and firm. This is also relevant for birthday wishes, as the day has either already started or not yet 😉

If you want to meet someone (online) at the time of change (ie 2x a year at night between 2 and 3:00 pm), you have to calculate the time it is with the other person. Of course, this has an influence, irrespective of another time zone.

(In Spain there is no time difference with Germany, only in Portugal.)

If time is changed in Germany and not in another country, the time shift naturally changes.
