How does the iPad charge the pen?

I have a question. The 10th-generation iPad came with a special connector that had a USB port on both sides. You plug one end into the iPad and the other into the Apple Pen. Then the iPad charges the Apple Pen. How does that work? Why doesn't the iPad charge from the pen?

And: would this also work for other things, like charging USBC headphones with your Samsung?

You have to turn on Bluetooth before connecting. I suspect that the iPad recognizes “Ah, the pencil is in my ass. Give me a break!”

Android devices can do that too. Especially in smartphones, this is unfavorable because there the battery is significantly smaller than in iPad.

This is just in the USB standard. My phone can also charge others. Thank you
