Without Apple Watch it is quite inaccurate.

You only have to switch on the fitness protocol in settings, privacy & security. Then the iPhone records all the steps you do while you carry it in your hand or pocket. It is even better or more accurate to wear the iPhone in a belt pocket.

From the steps counted in this way, the Health App calculates the calories consumed.

Not at all, as with all devices of this type, this is always only a very rough estimate that is not much to do with reality.
