How does it work with a network (gaming)?

Hello,

I'm currently playing a bit on the PC and the Playstation 3.

Just a question: how does it work to play against each other on the network?

On the PS3?

Is it sufficient to connect two PS3 consoles with a network cable? Or if they're connected to the same router, but the router doesn't have internet access? Or does it have to be connected via the internet?

On the PC?

If two PCs have the game installed, is a connection to a modem that is not connected to the Internet sufficient?

Or do the PCs have to be connected to each other via a network card?

Does a third PC need to be available as a server?

A modem without internet can be used for the connection between two PCs when your modem functions as a router/access point, i.e. connects the PCs to each other. (Modem needs an internal network)

This also goes via a network card or a direct Ethernet connection (crossover cable).

Then you need to see what you’re playing for a game. In many games, you can host the session locally on your computer, but that doesn’t work anywhere. Otherwise, the game must be hosted externally, possibly also only via server from the game provider.
