What is the maximum capacity of a portable hard drive without a power supply?
I'm looking for a reliable portable external hard drive, 2.5" or 3.5" with a USB-A port WITHOUT a power adapter/extra power supply. Are there any with capacities of 8 TB or more? There are several options/programs for software-side encryption.
As a free open source, for example, VeraCrypt would be an option! This allows you to encrypt the complete partition and access it only after password entry.
In the case of aft from a distance, the data or even the hard disk cannot be made useless. If your password was too easy or is stolen, it can be accessed.
If you are already using the hard drive for a longer time, some data fragments might have already been placed in the non-transparent reserve sectors, you can no longer encrypt and a data recovery professional could still find it.
