My keyboard is eight years old and in daily use. Nothing is dirty on it.

I just vacuum them twice a year and that's it.

Of course, if you regularly eat a kebab on it, things probably look different.

Most of the time I just knock out the crumbs etc. and then clean the keys with a cloth.

1-2 times a year I also clean the keys individually.

I usually remove the dust from the keys with a hand broom.

It depends on how expensive the keyboard is. I wouldn't just throw mine away.

But I've never cleaned them either. 🙁

Vacuum and wipe superficially.
I always changed my office keyboard about every 18 months. By then, it was usually worn out anyway.
I have a set of attachments for vacuum cleaners that lets you vacuum in the cracks quite well.

Something like this:

But also available as device-specific sets.

Then you're doing something wrong. I do a LOT of programming, and I use my PC from 11 a.m. to 3 a.m. My keyboard is fine. I take out all the keys and clean them once a year, but otherwise, it's fine.
