How do you clean your glasses without scratching them?

I clean my glasses with lukewarm water and a little dish soap and then dry them with a dishcloth. Even so, I still constantly get scratches on the lenses.

Hello SimonDaniel,

Your glasses are perfect and so it’s right – here’s the towel the problem.

Please get in from your optician, two microfiber cloths, with which you then dry the glasses. The cloth has exactly the right structure, is soft and fussel-free.

The cloths can be washed up to 40Β°, but please do not treat with softener, otherwise the pores of the cloth block and there are glazing on the glasses. Then you better get a new cloth from your optician.

An external service employee of a glass manufacturer company once told us that a lot of glasses would get “craters” because people can break the coating, no matter which, even in the case of glasses with a hard layer, during overwintering. This resulting crack looks like a scratch. Take care.

The towel is your problem.

I usually take very simple eyeglass cleaning cloths that exist in most stores.

But I also care when buying glasses that I have tempered glasses even if they cost a few euros more. This could, of course, also be your problem.

I do that with the sink sometimes but then take a paper bag to dry and I am also very careful.

Hm. paper towels contain smallest wood particles and can also leave the smallest scratch marks on cured plastic glasses over short or long.

Eyeglass cleaning cloths from drugries etc. – is also such a problem if you do not rinse the glasses with water beforehand. Then dust grains are rubbed with the damp cloth on the glass surfaces, and this can also give the finest scratches over time.

And yet my glasses are all uncrushed.

I’m using toilet paper. Works super, but I also have mineral glasses that are not so scratch-sensitive.
