How do therapists respond to severe self-harm?
Hello,
I have strong SM thoughts that my therapist already knows about and I had to promise him to come to the next session.
I couldn't stand it any longer, but I desperately wanted to keep my promise, so I severely injured myself in order to somehow continue living.
I want to be honest with him and tell him what I've done the next time we talk. Last time, which was fortunately at least a year ago, he also wanted to see the wounds. I'm afraid he'll want to see them again this time because they're much worse than before. I'm just afraid he'll have me admitted straight away.
Maybe you should let me know in advance that’s it. To get the amount of help you need. Depending on how deep the wounds are, they should also be medically supplied. If it has to be sewn, it only goes in a certain time window. As a minor, one often fears the reaction of parents, but should not prevent the use of medical assistance.
Of course, the reactions are sometimes difficult…
He will probably want to see the wounds to assess the extent of danger and the best you can do in the situation is to be honest.
