How do the chapters in a book flow?
How many chapters are there to introduce the characters, when does the main topic begin, etc.
Another question: how many words does a book of 100-150 pages have?
Suppose I want to publish my collection of short stories which is full of sick stuff (zoophilia, rape, etc.) which hardly any German-speaking publisher would accept and I publish and sell via direct sales under a pseudonym or anonymously. What do I need to consider, aside from IP and payment methods? I'd only be able…
Question is above ^^ It's about Warrior Cats, so only Warrior Cats names please. Some information about her: She is a student (but you can write warrior names if you like) She is brave and relatively strong and has a talent for fighting. Thank you ^^
Which unusual names do you like, and why? I'm looking for name inspiration for characters in my book. Thanks đŸ™‚
Names and surnames, male and female. I just need a lot of names for a story. LG
I know, nothing new, but I'd like to hear your opinion on this. I had the idea of starting a story with the adult main character telling his story during an interrogation. The interrogation always provides insight into the place/time of the events and teases one thing or another. The individual events in the main…
Hello, I've written a novel in the gay romance genre. Does anyone know of any good publishers or agencies I can contact? (I've heard that you're more likely to have luck with smaller publishers, but I don't know how or where to find them.) Another thing worth mentioning: The novel is quite "tragic," meaning rather…
It always depends on the book, but as a rule, I would recommend getting into the actual action as soon as possible, i.e. as early as possible. I would avoid pure imagination. In the end, this is usually only time-consuming, while you can actually get into action and characterize your characters ideally by the main act.
Take Harry Potter: The first chapter gives a brief overview of the previous layers, and the second one already disappears. Of course we have a little Harry description in there, but also action.
Finally, I can’t tell you ‘how many chapters before it gets serious’ because it is individual. A short book will come to the point faster than any huge Fantasy Epos.
Ideally, it should remain exciting. Have a voltage arc, pick it up at the beginning and hold it.
If you have a scene at the beginning that actually only serves the explanation and delays an exciting action, consider if you can delete it (partly this can help you find a great entry).
How long is a book with about 150 pages in terms of words… comes to the font size and the page size at some point also to the formatting . The Internet says about 50,000 words. The order is at least realistic.
The entry into the main topic should take place as soon as possible. The character presentation only takes as long as necessary. What is important to know at the beginning of the main character. Characterization continues to be deepened during ongoing history.
So at the latest in the second chapter you should be in the main topic as a reader and know the main character. Other characters are introduced throughout history.
A standard page consists of about 200 – 250 words. It varies due to the structure and the average word length. This means that at 100 – 150 pages it can be between 20,000 and 37,500 words.
Can’t be said on a flat-rate basis and is heavily dependent on the genre. It would be most useful to study successful books and to see how much time they leave etc.
100 – 150 pages (in book format, not DIN A4) are quite little, most books already have at least 200 pages.
If you want to continue forming for the whole creative process as a car, I recommend this here: https://autorenhaus.de/products/uber-das-schreib
Sol Stein – About writing. The author is a successful author and editor, so he definitely has a certain idea.
In addition, it all depends mega on target group, genre, etc.
In my novel, I counted 284 Din A4 pages, font size 12, 1.5-fold line spacing, block text, 110 789 words.
Now a good book can have loose 900-1000 pages, but most are around the 500 pages.
This does not answer my question, but nevertheless thank you
I wouldn’t give it so much. In the end it comes to history. It won’t be better if you stretch it on 900 pages with all violence, on the contrary.
And to the other question, the description of the main character can come at the beginning and also be taken into account in history/the book. The further character descriptions can gradually pass through with the opening in history.
Right. But like man, a book also has many pages or better can have many pages.
Question: do you read books yourself?
If so, why don’t you look like other authors have built up their stories? The magic word here is: Structure. There are various structures for a story: 3-act, 4-act, heroic journey etc. These are constructed differently and are a good scaffold to see when what has to happen so that history makes sense. However, authors usually produce an exhibition and a scene plan. Generally, I would recommend reading pens and working with them and reading a lot. Best in the genre you write. So you get a good feeling for what works and what doesn’t.
The extent of a story is measured in the literature world in standard pages. This is a standard in the publishing world. Matching templates are found on the net. On a standard page, on average 250 words fit. 150 standard pages, 37,500 words. However, since you have not written how your page is formatted, the scope can vary.
