Officially not, this function was abolished. However, this can obviously be achieved via the registration editor.

I don't know if there are any malfunctions.

Unfortunately does not work with me, after restarting the Explorer, 03 is in again and the bar is still down.

Okay, sorry. I’ve never tried it before and I’m afraid I don’t have a tip.

In Windows 11, it is officially no longer possible to move the taskbar to the top screen edge as in previous versions of Windows.

Microsoft has removed this feature, and also the taskbar can be placed at the bottom of the screen via the normal settings.

However, there are some unofficial methods and registry tricks to still move the taskbar up. Note that this is not an official solution and may lead to stability problems.

Method: Registry Hack

  1. Open Registry Editor
  2. Pressure
  3. Win + R

  1. regedit

one and confirm with Enter.

  1. Navigate to the corresponding path
  2. Go to the following path in the Registry Editor:
  3. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StuckRects3
  • Double click on the entry
  • Settings
  • A list of values appears in the lower section. Search the fifth column in the second row (represented in the hexadecimal code).
  • Change the value there from
  • 03

(so the value for below) to:

  • 01

(…the value for “top”).

Value 03: Taskbar below

Value 01: Taskbar above

  1. Save changes and restart Explorer
  • Close the Registry Editor.
  • Restart the Windows Explorer to take over the changes. Press
  • Strg + Shift + Esc
  • go to the “Processes” tab, search for “Windows Explorer”, right-click it and select “Restart”.
  1. Restart
  2. In some cases, a complete restart of Windows is necessary so that the change becomes fully effective.

Possible limitations and problems

This method is not official and can cause unexpected display problems. Microsoft has severely reworked the taskbar under Windows 11 so that manual change of position can cause problems.

Some functions, such as displaying context menus or animations, could be restricted or not work as usual.

Right-click on the taskbar and thus call the settings. There you can change the position.
