How do I find out the age of a bottle?
I found a bottle buried deep in the woods today. It's taller and wider than normal wine bottles, for example. It only has a fluted rim at the bottom. Otherwise there's no imprint. It's not even shaped at all. It didn't have a label either. It's a real eye-catcher, as a decoration. Because of the fluting on the bottom I don't think it can be particularly old, is it? It's probably from an industrial process, right? What does puzzle me is that it's not evenly shaped at all, so I was hoping I'd dug up an older gem. Unfortunately I can't find anything online about when green glass started being produced, or when these notches in the ring on the bottom of the bottle were made. Any experts here?
see bottle shapes https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/wine bottle
see the ruffles https://www.swr.de/blog/1000 Replies/19251/warum-sind-fast-alle-glass bottles-on-lower-rand-geriffelt/ (unfortunately without indication of age, IMHO would be an indication of machine production)
if the bottle is a little "unround" it can be, despite mechanical compelling, that during cooling and transportation in the factory it was pressed a little (minimum)…
(today in the fully-mechanized unlikely processes, 100 years ago or so, there were still "hands" in the meantime…)
I'd say she got her mouth blown. This size is not produced by machine, such deformed bottles are also sorted out. The liquid glass is removed from the melting furnace with the aid of a blasting rod and then introduced into a blow-out mold on the bottom of which these flutes are located. When it's finished blown, it's slowly cooled. Your container is probably a misproduct, glass is cooled too quickly when blowing out and has not reached the full shape. What a container that is, you can't say that. Maybe a pharmacy container, a wine balloon or whatever. Green glass has been produced for a long time.
If there's an approach on the floor, the mouth blows.
If a fine thin seam can be seen on the outside on the sides, the machine is produced.
Yes on the bottle there is a seam on each side, just discovered it is very fine. Thank you.

no, just completely uneven if you hold them in your hand with both hands. It is also much larger and higher
Call the town hall, bigger cities and circles often have a city archaeologist. Maybe he can help you.
Ah cool, yes thank you!
